 Chapter Development Ideas

"Let's Give 'Em Something To Talk About!"

These are the different areas of chapter development as taken from www.ffa.org to address quality standards in individual chapters.    

üLeadership - activities that help the individual develop technical, human relations and decision-making skills to enhance personal success

üHealthy lifestyles - activities that promote the well-being and self-esteem of students, either mentally or physically

üSupervised agricultural experience - activities that promote student involvement and growth through agriculture-related experience and/or Entrepreneurship

üScholarship - activities that develop a positive attitude toward lifelong learning experience

üAgricultural career skillsactivities that develop agricultural occupation and career skills through a progressive learning environment

üFinancialactivities conducted to encourage thrift and good financial management among members through earnings, savings and investments

üPublic relationsactivities conducted to promote a positive image and inform students, parents, school officials and community about chapter members accomplishments

üSupport groupactivities conducted to develop and maintain positive relations among the FFA, parents, community leaders and industry

üChapter recruitmentactivities conducted to increase agricultural education enrollment and/or FFA membership and encourage greater participation

üEconomicactivities conducted to improve the economic welfare of the community

üEnvironmentalactivities conducted to preserve the natural resources and develop more environmentally responsible individuals

üHuman resourcesactivities conducted to improve the welfare and well-being of members and citizens of the community

üCitizenshipactivities conducted to promote and encourage members to become active, involved citizens of their school, community and country

üAgricultural awareness/Public Relationsactivities conducted to help the public become better informed about the food system and related agricultural issues

 

We want to share ideas from other chapters that are working in their own communities to encourage development. These ideas were shared by FFA members from the Area I Association when asked the question:

"What does your chapter do great??? "

in the Chapter Development and Information Workshop at Camp this year.  To add your own or new activity, be sure to send your chapter name and idea to:  kccorse@nts-online.net.   It will be added to the list. 

 

Abernathy- Mechanics, Dog Dip, Mustang Breaking fundraiser, Fun days during FFA week

Booker- Cajun Feast (auction), Greenhand sale

Boys Ranch- SAE, Raffle- CC, Ag. Olympics

Bushland- Judging exhibition for lower grades, keeps community involved, FFA Fish day (Freshmen)

Canyon- Host dances

Cotton Center- Tractor Restoration- Nationals, "Cotton Center Cares" Collects clothes, toys etc. for those in need

 

Darrouzett- Assist with Annual "Dutch Day"

Dimmitt- Slave Sale

Follett- Elementary Farm day, Meat, Labor Auction

Ft. Elliott- Land Judging, Talent Team

Frenship- Silent Auction, CDEs

Friona- Meat and Fruit Sales

Happy- Meat and Fruit Sales, Cooking Bus

Hedley- Custom Trailer Sale

Hereford- Poultry Judging, annual meat sale at Ag. Shop

Highland Park- Meats, Catering- Fundraising

Idalou- Scholarship Supper/ Dinner Dance, Ag. Day for younger kids, Parade, Meat and Fruit Sales, Land Judging

Lefors- Friday Night Activities open to the Public

Levelland- Gift drive at Christmas, Clean up festivals

Lubbock - Cooper- Livestock and Dairy Cattle Judging, Monthly Hamburger Feed, Team Roping to raise money for Scholarships, Auction

Monterey- Christmas Party, Recruiting

Nazareth- Print monthly news reports for the local newspaper, Pickup Raffle, Thanksgiving Feast, Meat and Fruit Sales, Trailer Raffle

New Deal- Dairy Products, Scholarships, Fruit and Meat Sales, Auction

Olton- Meat and Fruit sales

Pampa- Greenhand games, Cooks Steaks for other banquets

Panhandle- Fruit and Meat Sales

Roosevelt- Livestock Judging, Kenneth Vineyard Scholarship, Steer SAE

Ropes- Community Service, SAE, Livestock Judging, Christmas party for Foster kids, Competitive LDE's, Meat and Fruit Sales, SAE- Lambs

Shallowater- Raise and sell pumpkins, Food Drive, Funnel cakes and burgers, Auction

Silverton- Goat roping

Slaton- Community Baseball game, Flags around town, Benefit Concert

Springlake-Earth- Stockshow Involvement, Meat and Fruit Sales, Ruidoso Officer Retreat

Sudan- Land Judging

lainview- Read to elementary student, work Concession stand at local high school football game

 

Sunray- Ag Mechanics Auction

Tascosa- Catering

Valley- Big Gala for Scholarships, Concession Stand at Football games

Vega- Lake Trip

West Texas- Brisket Dinner, Ranch Rodeo

Wheeler- Labor Auction, Parade, Petting Zoo, Concession, Meat and Fruit Sale

Whitharral- Pick up trash after football game, Annual chili supper to benefit scholarships, Canned Food Drive, FFA week at school (recruit)
